Kevin Steele
Kevin Steele is a British social campaigner. His track record includes: - Founding Global Entrepreneurship Week to inspire people to turn their ideas into reality. In 2009, 7.5 million people attended 32,000 events in 88 countries.
- Leading the Ethics for USS campaign which resulted in the adoption of ethical investment policies by a £23 billion stock market fund and the formation of the £3 trillion Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change.
- Conceiving the anti-poverty Trade Justice Movement, which in 2002 ran the biggest ever lobby of the UK Parliament.
- Leading one of the two largest UK sections of the Jubilee 2000 campaign that won $21 billion of debt cancellation for the world's poorest countries.
- Co-founding the UK’s largest coalition on family issues.
- Founding the Climate Week campaign on climate change, backed by former US Vice President Al Gore and by over 100 national bodies representing half a million organisations.
- Gaining over 4,000 pieces of media coverage for the campaigns he has led.
From 2007 to 2009 Kevin sat on the Council on Social Action chaired by the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and on the government’s Talent and Enterprise Task Force. He chaired the Enterprise Campaign Coalition and was on the selection committee of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion. He is a member of the steering group of the Big Society Network launched by the Prime Minister, David Cameron at Downing Street in July 2010. Kevin has been a consultant for clients such as the Eden Project (on The Big Lunch, catalysing 8,000 street parties for community cohesion) and Reed (on Keep Britain Working, promoting new employment policy ideas). He was Chief Executive of the enterprise promotion body Enterprise Insight (2003-2007), and the Director of the social justice organisation People & Planet (1996-2003).
